Polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride

Polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride(PDMDAAC) is a chemical substance with the molecular formula (C8H16NCl) n. Pdadmac is a strong cationic polyelectrolyte and appears as a colorless to pale yellow viscous liquid. Safe, non-toxic, easily soluble in water, nonflammable, strong cohesive force, good hydrolysis stability, non gel forming, insensitive to pH changes, and chlorine resistant. The solidification point is about -2.8 ℃, the specific gravity is about 1.04 g/cm, and the decomposition temperature is 280-300 ℃.

    • FAQ:

Q1: What are the main applications of PolyDADMAC?
A1: PolyDADMAC is a strong cationic polyelectrolyte primarily used as a flocculant and coagulant in water treatment. Additionally, it is utilized in the paper industry, as an antistatic agent for textiles, and as a conditioning agent in personal care products.

Q2: What is the difference between PolyDADMAC and polyacrylamide?
A2: PolyDADMAC and polyacrylamide (PAM) are both polymers used in water treatment. PDADMAC is a strong cationic polymer that works primarily through charge neutralization, while PAM can be cationic, anionic, or nonionic and functions mainly through bridging mechanisms. They differ in chemical structure, mechanisms of action, and application areas.

Q3: What are the advantages of PolyDADMAC over polyaluminum chloride?
A3: As an organic polymer flocculant, PolyDADMAC offers advantages over inorganic flocculants like polyaluminum chloride (PAC), including lower dosage requirements, faster flocculation rates, and less sensitivity to pH variations. Additionally, PDADMAC maintains effective flocculation performance in low-temperature water.

      Q4: How safe is PolyDADMAC?
A4: PolyDADMAC is considered a safe and non-toxic compound. In water treatment applications, appropriate usage concentrations do not pose risks to the environment or human health. However, when handling high-concentration PDADMAC solutions, standard safety procedures should be followed to avoid direct contact with skin and eyes.

Q5: What is the relationship between PolyDADMAC and the monomer DADMAC?
A5: PolyDADMAC is a polymer formed by the polymerization of the monomer dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride (DADMAC). DADMAC is a monomer with cationic groups, and upon polymerization, it yields PDADMAC with high molecular weight and strong cationic properties.
